Lego announced a major new Star Wars set Wednesday, continuing its strategy of releasing premium collector pieces that appeal to adult fans. This newest Star Wars model, the Executor Super Star Destroyer, holds a significant distinction: according to Polygon, it is the toymaker's longest brick-built Star Wars model by length, measuring 53.5 inches. It brings to life Darth Vader's iconic flagship from The Empire Strikes Back.
Priced at $799.99, the 6,130-piece set releases October 1. While other Star Wars sets like the 9,023-piece Death Star and 7,541-piece Millennium Falcon boast higher component counts, the Executor claims its own superlative through sheer length.
Achieving this length required careful engineering. Lego's designers created a slender core using Lego Technic parts. Specialized Technic outriggers anchored the exterior panels. This approach delivers structural strength without unnecessary bulk. For a model approaching six feet in length, weight distribution and stability become critical design priorities, while the hull features dense detailing along the center, creating visual interest through concentrated greebling that contrasts with sleek side panels.
A newly designed tile graphic demonstrates this balance between efficiency and detail. The decorated graphic appears 60 times throughout the set. It works across multiple orientations and overlaps. This recreates tiny hull lights and central detailing. Rather than repeating an identical tile, this varied approach produces the illusion of organic, random lighting. Controlled inversions throughout the build switch the orientation of pieces mid-way through construction, exposing both stud and tube sides to enrich detailing on the center spine and underside.
The set includes seven minifigures that provide both play and display possibilities. Darth Vader leads the group, accompanied by all six bounty hunters featured in The Empire Strikes Back: Boba Fett, Dengar, Bossk, IG-88, 4-LOM, and Zuckuss. Lego is including a minifig-scale recreation of the Executor's bridge as a display platform for these characters. This kind of complementary scenery piece enhances the collecting experience beyond just the main ship model.
Among the companion models is a standard Star Destroyer, which appears dwarfed next to the Executor and even carries a tiny Millennium Falcon attached to its rear. These ships provide scale references and add narrative options for collectors.
